Denmark

Håndværkerfradrag

In Denmark, homeowners can deduct part of the labour cost of certain home improvements from their tax, and solar panel work qualifies. It is a small but real way to lower the net price of going solar.

An electrician fitting solar panels on a rooftop

8,600 kr

per person, 2025

9,000 kr

per person, 2026

It applies to work that includes solar panels. The deduction covers the labour cost of the work, not the cost of materials.

What is håndværkerfradrag?

It is a tax deduction for the labour part of certain home improvements. When an installer fits your solar system, the hours they spend can be deducted from your taxable income. The materials and the panels themselves do not count, only the work. The job has to be reported to SKAT and paid digitally rather than in cash.

Real saving ≈ a quarter of the amount
Per person, so a couple can claim it twice

It is a deduction, not a cash grant, so you save roughly a quarter of the amount in tax. An 8,600 kr deduction is worth around 2,200 kr per person, and a couple who both claim it can roughly double that.

How to claim it

  1. 1

Ask your installer to list the labour cost separately on the invoice.

  2. 2

Pay digitally, by bank transfer or card, and keep the receipt.

  3. 3

Enter the labour amount under håndværkerfradrag in your tax assessment at skat.dk.
